π˜—π˜Άπ˜Άπ˜·π˜¦π˜ͺ𝘴𝘡𝘰𝘴 𝘫𝘒 𝘯𝘰𝘬π˜ͺ𝘱π˜ͺπ˜ͺ𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘴π˜ͺ𝘒 4.–14.9.2025 Antti KeitilΓ€ Antti KeitilΓ€ (b. 1966) has been developing his soot drawing technique (also known as fumage or soot drawing) since 2018. In this method, drawing is done using burning birch bark on paper or plasterboard, without the bark ever touching the surface. Instead, the soot produced by the flame adheres to the surface, forming the image. The flame cannot be fully controlled β€” chance and the uncontrollable must be accepted as part of the process. This element of unpredictability fascinates the artist. KeitilΓ€ traces the origins of his soot drawing to graffiti burned with a lighter onto a school bathroom ceiling he saw as a teenager, and later to his studies in sculpture, where soot was used to blacken plaster molds for casting in type metal. In his wooden sculptures, KeitilΓ€ uses found and discarded pieces of wood. It is important to him that no trees are felled for the sake of the artworks. He incorporates the existing shapes and characteristics of the wood into his sculptures. He works mostly without electric tools, allowing the physical qualities of hand tools to influence his expression β€” something that is also visible in the final result. The artist will be present at the gallery throughout the duration of the exhibition. Opening hours: Tue–Fri 1–6 pm, Sat–Sun 12–5 pm
