Festival Info

This page is being updated, and there will be more details closer to the events.

Helsinki Design Week 2021 will be held from 9 to 19 September 2021.
Helsinki Design Week’s Programme will be published on 12 August 2021.
The annual theme is What is Wise to Design now? Read more about the theme here.

Helsinki Design Week’s main venue this year is Glasshouse Helsinki (Aleksanterinkatu 13, Helsinki). The festival’s main exhibitions and additional programme will take place on the second, third and fourth floor of the building. The largest design stock sales event in the Nordics, the Design Market, will also take place at Glasshouse Helsinki. In addition to the main venue, the festival is spread across various venues in the city centre: from museums to market places and from seminar halls to secret boutiques.

In some of the events, attendance is limited or participants need to be known to the organizer. Separate tickets are sold to these events, and participants need to register for the festival. Most of the HDW events offer free access.

U-Joints from 9 September to 23 October
U-JOINTS explores the use of joints in design and architecture. Knots & Knits is the fourth part of Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu’s U-JOINTS research project and series of exhibitions. During Helsinki Design Week, Knots & Knits explains the history of textiles, fabrics and ropes.

Design Market from 10 to 12 September
Organized at the Cable Factory since 2005, the largest outlet event in the Nordic countries will now take place on the third and fourth floors of Glasshouse Helsinki, exceptionally from 10 to 12 September. The vendors include designers and makers of high-quality furniture and interior design products who operate following the principles of sustainable development.

Office of the Future from 15 to 19 September
What is the Office of the Future like? The year of the pandemic accelerated the change in our ways of working, an inescapable development. The Office of the Future exhibition presents a versatile collection of ideas from furniture makers, designers and researchers on how and where we are to work in the future.

“What is Wise?” exhibition and discussion events from 15 to 19 September
During the festival, the festival theme What is Wise? is explored on the fourth floor of our main venue Glasshouse Helsinki. We can expect to see the latest products and ideas from Finnish designers, participate in daily discussions and visit a pop-up restaurant to meet people.

Children’s Design Week from 9 to 19 September
There will be fun things to explore and do for the children, too at Glasshouse Helsinki.
