Helsinki Design Week will take place from 28 August to 6 September 2026, around the city and online.
The largest design festival in the Nordics presents over hundred events in architecture and design. The festival offers exhibitions, parties, sales events, open doors, fashion shows and much more for both city dwellers as well as design professionals. While most of the events have free entry, some require tickets or registration.
Please note:
Due to their great popularity, HDW Meeting Points may occasionally be busy, so please be prepared to queue. We recommend arriving no later than 45 minutes before closing time.
On Thursday, 3 September, guided tours will take place at the Meeting Points from 4 pm onwards, which may result in even busier conditions at the locations.

HDW Lab Workshops: how to revive the city center?, 2–4 September, 2026

Workshop for Revitalising the City Centre:
The Future of Aleksanterinkatu – Public Street Space
What would encourage people to spend more time on Aleksanterinkatu, return there and use the services in the area? Facilitated by WSP, this workshop will explore concrete ideas for the future of Aleksanterinkatu and visualise them with the help of AI.
3 Sept. at 3 to 5 PM, for businesses and property owners
4 Sept. at 12 to 2 PM, for city residents
Workshop for service and business developers:
Commercial Spaces
How could vacant and changing commercial spaces in the city centre be used in new ways? Bring an idea, a question or a space you’ve been thinking about – no finished proposal needed. Examples and starting points are provided. In this workshop, facilitated by Helsinki-based startup Silt, AI will be used to find, challenge and develop new solutions. No previous experience with AI is required.
Please bring your own laptop to the workshop, as we’ll be working together on a shared digital platform. A mobile phone will not be sufficient for the workshop activities.

The aim of the workshops is not simply to discuss the future. The best ideas developed during the workshops may be taken into practice and tested in the urban space as part of Helsinki Design Week 2027.
The workshops take place 2–4 September at HDW Lab, Kluuvikatu 3. Choose the topic and time that suit you best when registering.
The workshops are free of charge for visitors, but registration is required.
SOLD OUT PechaKucha Night, 4 September, 2026
Welcome to PechaKucha Night at the Finnish House of Nobility on 4 September at 8–10pm!
The evening follows a simple yet effective format: each speaker presents 20 images, with each image displayed for 20 seconds. This means every presentation lasts exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds. The strict time limit keeps the talks concise, visual and engaging.

How can Helsinki city centre be reimagined?
For decades, city centres have been shaped around retail, offices and public infrastructure. Today, e-commerce, remote work, changing consumer behaviour and new ways of living are challenging this model.
Helsinki Design Week brings together experts in urban planning, business, design and culture to explore new solutions for the future of the city.
The seminar will be moderated by Katja Lindroos, who will guide the audience, speakers and panellists through the transformation of city centres and the need for change.

Helsinki Design Week warmly welcomes you to join the Design Diplomacy event at the ambassadors’ residences.
Design Diplomacy is built around the idea of open dialogue. Designers from different countries meet as equals, sharing their experiences, perspectives and ideas in an informal conversation guided by a card game created specifically for the event.
The language of the event is English.

Open Studios opens the doors to the everyday realities of creative work, shines a light on professionals across the design fields, and offers a unique opportunity to explore the creative industries from within. On two Fridays (28 August & 4 September), visitors are invited to explore some of the city’s most inspiring studios and workspaces and meet the people behind them.
The programme highlights the people and work environments that often remain behind the finished products, services and buildings we encounter, giving visitors a chance to see how ideas are conceived, developed and brought into the world around us.

Guided Open Studios -tours are held on two Friday’s during Helsinki Design Week; 28 August and 4 September, starting at 4pm. The tours are free of charge and the duration of one tour is approx. 3h.
The starting point of the tour will be announced to you three days before the event.

Welcome to a free HDW Meeting Points tour!
The guided tour will take place on 3 September and lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Pre-registration needed.
You can choose either the Marimekko and Futuro at Helsinki Design Week installation or the Aalto 90 Pavilion as the starting point for your tour. During the tour, you will visit all of the HDW Meeting Points.

This year, Design Market at Kaapelitehdas will also feature a new Workshop Market, offering visitors the opportunity to take part in workshops led by professionals and learn a range of hands-on skills.
Each workshop lasts approximately two hours and costs €35.

REGISTRATION HAS ENDED – Visible Mending & Sashiko – Workshop for denim
Welcome to discover sashiko, a traditional Japanese hand-stitching technique that has been used for centuries to repair, reinforce, and extend the life of garments.
You are encouraged to bring your own jeans or other denim garment with signs of wear, a hole, or an area you would like to reinforce or embellish. Denim patches will also be available, allowing you to practise before working on your own garment.
Sashiko needles, thread, and all other necessary materials will be provided during the workshop. No previous sewing experience is required.
The workshop is organized by Seams Helsinki.

REGISTRATION HAS ENDED – Intentional objects – composition – drawing workshop
The drawing workshop brings Finnish design objects for reinterpretation—and simply for spending a moment together examining the compositions.
This low-threshold workshop is led by Milla-Maija Saari, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. During the workshop, she will give participants different drawing exercises based on two different arrangements, including quick sketches, or croquis, as well as a couple of longer drawing sessions.

REGISTRATION HAS ENDED – Darning Workshop
The Darning Workshop is led by Textile Designer Saimi Parikka, who will teach you the art of cross-stitch darning and tips on other darning techniques.
You can bring your own garment or piece of textile that needs mending, or use the materials provided at the workshop. We will begin by practising on a fabric swatch that matches the item you want to repair as much as possible.
All necessary tools and darning yarns are provided at the workshop. The workshop is mainly in Finnish but guidance is available in English if needed.
