Helsinki Design Night – a club night creating new spaces for encounters

In just a few years, Helsinki Design Night has become one of the most anticipated main events of Helsinki Design Week. The club night will take place on the festival’s final Saturday, 13 September, from 22:00 to 02:00. By opening the festival’s main venue attic to revellers, we explore how the city’s familiar corners take on a different character after dark. The programme partner for 2025 is Moomin Arabia.

The city is still the city at night, even though many of its public spaces close their doors and fall silent. Yet much of what is most intriguing happens after hours; many creative ideas spark precisely outside everyday structures, when people meet simply for the joy of meeting. Helsinki Design Night invites you to experience the stunning, previously closed spaces of the 1911-built Suomitalo building, now revealed in the nocturnal light and context. HDW is also celebrated at Moomin Arabia’s online store: use the code HDW20 code to get 20% off until 14 September 2025. The offer does not apply to new arrivals and cannot be combined with other discounts.

During Helsinki Design Week, the fourth floor of Suomitalo will host the HAPPINESS main exhibition, installations, discussions, and the HDW Wine Bar. For four nights, the fifth floor will also feature Kuurna’s pop-up restaurant, designed by Lauri Johansson and created in collaboration with Finnish Design Shop.

On Saturday evening, 13 September, the doors to the top floor will open. From above the city rooftops, a perfect attic dancefloor will be unveiled. Programme partner Moomin Arabia will bring a festive atmosphere straight from Moominvalley, with beloved classic characters encountered in a new light. Partygoers can enjoy their drinks served – for once – in Moomin mugs, alongside surprising reinterpretations of the Moomin world.

HDW’s long-time partner 417 World ensures an immersive event and a genuine club atmosphere with its expertise in technical spatial design. The artist line-up has also been curated together with 417 World, promising plenty of danceable and atmospheric Helsinki club music. Live performances during the evening include Samuli Kemppi, Lempi, and Mikko Joensuu. Behind the bar decks you’ll find Adam Tickle, Malin Nyqvist, Joshi, and Denzel.
