The programme of the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale dives into the theme of water
This year’s Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale brings together art, science, architecture and design in an unprecedented way. The biennale once again takes over the entire village, and in addition to the main exhibitions and environmental artworks, art enthusiasts are treated to dance and performance pieces, workshops, and discussion events.
The two main exhibitions, Sense of Water produced by Luovi and Dew by Onoma, share this year’s common theme of water. Further information, artist listings, and ticket sales can be found at www.fiskarsvillagebiennale.com.
SENSE OF WATER

Curated by artist-researcher Riikka Latva-Somppi, Sense of Water explores humanity’s relationship with water, and how knowledge, emotions, and actions shape our understanding of it. The exhibition brings together art, design, and science. On display are works, projects, and initiatives addressing themes such as the care of water and the impact of plastics on waterways. Sense of Water takes over the third, entrance-level floor of the Old Granary (Viljamakasiini).
All participating artists in the exhibition have now been announced. Explore the full programme via the link below.
DEW

Dew is the summer exhibition of Onoma, the cooperative of Fiskars-based artisans, designers, and artists. Marco Casagrande is behind the exhibition’s design and curation. The exhibition examines the water cycle and its role as the engine of the “life machine,” positioning humans as part of the baptism (kaste). The works are installed in the Copper Smithy (Kuparipaja) and spread into its surrounding area.

BIENNALE SHOP

The Biennale Shop opens in the basement floor of the Granary and invites visitors to explore a carefully curated selection of high-quality Finnish products. Among them you’ll find the perfect summer souvenirs, including items from Juslin Maunula, Ablomb perfumes, and a seasonal selection of books.
The shop also offers Biennale merchandise featuring the event’s graphic identity—caps, T-shirts, scarves, and tote bags. On the same floor, visitors can also view photographs by the design collective Studio Moĩ, which are part of the Biennale’s visual identity.
RINNAKKAISOHJELMA

The Biennale’s parallel programme consists of engaging and diverse exhibitions, workshops, and installations. It includes, among others, Lokal’s summer exhibition and Aalto University’s wilderness cabin Kurukuru. The programme also features a range of events throughout the summer, from clay construction courses and open studios to outdoor installations. Further details can be found via the button below.
Lokal’s summer exhibition At First Blush is set in the idyllic 19th-century ironworks village of Billnäs, in an old shovel factory. The group exhibition consists of worlds and bodies of work that combine traditions of fine art, refined craftsmanship, and collectible objects.
Aalto University’s wilderness cabin Kurukuru welcomes visitors into nature. Built from wooden elements, the structure is a reinterpretation of traditional log construction with a small carbon footprint.
