My Week: Armi Teva

One of Helsinki Design Weekly’s  missions is to support both the local and international design community all year round. The My Week series presents the everyday life of creatives through their own lens. This week we get a sneak peak of Armi Teva’s week.

Armi Teva (1992) is an artist and designer who works in sculpture, illustration and public art. Her work is distinctively playful, bold, rich in detail and laced with romantic tones. She has an appreciation for craft traditions and loves working with clay and other tactile materials. Her main mission is to make images and mix beauty with the odd, the wicked and the silly.

Day 1

Working with Milla Vainio. She’s assisting me with a big public art work I’m doing for a kindergarten in Meri-Rastila. The piece consists of 235 handmade and glaze painted tiles and it will be installed by the end of summer.

Day 2

Moving day. I briefly rented an extra project space from Kaapelitehdas and today I moved back to my own studio in Aleksanterin teatteri. I love the space but it’s getting small for my growing projects. Sculpture in the making.

Päivä 3

Visiting Lokal gallery’s 14th birthday party with my sweetheart Santtu Mustonen. Congrats Katja Hagelstam and the team! I’ll be taking part in Lokal’s summer exhibition in Fiskars 28 June – 9 August.

Day 4

Documenting new face reliefs. This is my 10th year of making the Naamat series and I’m planning to have some kind of celebration for it. This project has made it possible for me to work independently and I’m so happy for it.

Day 5

Checking out results from glaze firing. I got 30 tiles fired at @keramiikkakeskus Septaria.
In addition I continued doing sculptures and scouting for a new project space for ceramic work. Any tips for a space in the Punavuori area? —> Let me know!

Day 6

Home day, I baked some bread rolls and a very dry lemon pie. I had a good portion of TV watching and bought some discount daffodils to get that easter spirit up.

Day 7

It’s a work oriented Easter Sunday. I’m hand building sculptures for Nuoret 26 group show at Taidehalli Helsinki. The exhibition runs from 29 May till 19 July.
