Crafted Connections – Where French and Finnish Design Meet

Crafted Connections is a Franco-Finnish design residency organised by the French institute of Finland, bringing together three French and three Finnish designers to work in pairs and create new works together. During the residency, the designers combine different materials, techniques and craft traditions while sharing their skills and exploring new ways of working together.

The results of these collaborations will be presented in the display window of Stockmann on Aleksanterinkatu. The Crafted Connections exhibition invites visitors into an imaginary artist’s studio filled with design objects that bring together textile work, woodcarving, ceramics and basketry. The participating designer duos are Cécile Gray & Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen, Karelle Couturier & Merileena Reunanen, and Paul Flanders & Pierre-Henri Beyssac.

The installation at Stockmann is complemented by a selection of fashion pieces created by four French and Finnish designers who were finalists at the prestigious Hyères Festival. The pieces will be presented both at Stockmann and at the French Institute of Finland.

Expert craftsmanship and artisanal savoir-faire are the guiding themes of the Crafted Connections exhibition, which also offers a glimpse into the exceptional techniques employed by French designers and the French National Manufactures. The project is a celebration of the dialogue between French and Finnish design, as well as an exploration of what can emerge when different materials, skills and perspectives come together.

Come and discover the exhibition both at Stockmann and at the French Institute during Helsinki Design Week!
