Autius - Quinta Essentia is a multidisciplinary installation by Jennifer Lipkin and Emilia Kuurila, with glass works by Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen. Presented at the Kamppi Chapel of Silence, the work brings together scent, textile and glass in dialogue with the chapel’s distinctive architecture and atmosphere.

Inspired by the five classical elements - earth, water, air, fire and aether - the installation explores scent as an invisible material that shifts how we experience a familiar place. At its centre is encounter; with our surroundings, with one another and with ourselves.

Within the quiet of the chapel, scent heightens attention to our senses, surroundings and thoughts. The work considers what presence, stillness and spirituality might mean today, and how experiencing a familiar place through scent might allow us to perceive it anew.

Jennifer Lipkin is an interdisciplinary artist working across visual art, spatial practice and sensory experience. Her practice explores place, memory and identity, with a particular interest in scent as a material for shaping our experience of space. Emilia Kuurila is a fashion and textile designer whose work brings together materiality, colour and sensory expression. Her practice explores textiles and scent alongside a critical examination of the structures and conventions of fashion. Hanna-Kaisa Korolainen is an artist and designer working with textiles, ceramics and glass. Drawing from art history, her materially driven practice brings past and present together through colour, form and unexpected associations.
