Autius – Quinta Essentia is a multidisciplinary work series by Jennifer Lipkin and Emilia Kuurila that brings scent to the centre of contemporary practice at the intersection of art and design. The work proposes a new way of experiencing the city by combining spatial art, textile practice, design and olfactory research into a sensorial and conceptual whole.

Unfolding across Helsinki through the five classical elements, the series invites audiences to pause within the flow of everyday life. Earth, water, air, fire and aether emerge as site-responsive scent interventions that engage memory, embodiment and the perception of space beyond the visual.

The programme culminates in a central exhibition where the elements come together in a new context. Here, scent becomes part of a textile-based installation, intertwining with material, colour and structure. Presented as a distilled scent library, the work draws attention to the immaterial as something that is nevertheless deeply felt.

Autius – Quinta Essentia expands conventional exhibition formats by placing contemporary practice within everyday urban environments. Open and free to all, it offers space to pause and invites a renewed relationship with place, time and the sensory world.

Jennifer Lipkin is an interdisciplinary artist whose work operates at the intersection of visual art and spatial practice. She is particularly interested in questions of place, identity, and sensorial experience. Lipkin has explored scent as a spatial and interactive material, and her work has been widely presented in exhibitions and festivals. Emilia Kuurila is a fashion and textile designer whose work emphasizes materiality, color, and sensorial expression. She develops holistic concepts in which scent and a critical examination of fashion structures are central themes.
