SuperKOLMEMEN installation will fill The Three Smiths statue in the heart of Helsinki from 5 to 11 September with design events from jazz to Yayoi Kusama movie. Programme is out now!
The Three Smiths Statue will be full of design from 5 to 11 September, when Berlin-based collective Plastique Fantastique builds a giant bubble around the statue. Daily programme offers new perspectives to design, architecture and better cities.
For Lunch Hour Talks journalist Ida Kukkapuro will interview top names in Finnish and international design about their backgrounds, sources of inspiration and their work, and lovely September nights can be enjoyed with Yayoi Kusama documentary film or video work by video artist Simone Serlenga.
Radio Helsinki will broadcast from the installation and We Jazz publish the programme for their next festival.

Monday 5.9.

12 pm-1 pm Lunch Hour Talk: Plastique Fantastique
In the first Lunch Hour Talk interview, the Plastique Fantastique collective talks about the superKOLMEMEN installation’s planning and realization and their projects around the world.

1 pm-2 pm Lexus Young Creatives Launch (invitation only)
Known for its expert design, Lexus produces an exhibition during Helsinki Design Week that presents the winning works from the Young Creatives photo challenge mentored by Jere Hietala. The photographs are exhibited on video screens at tram stops in the city centre. The event is the exhibition’s vernissage.
2 pm-3 pm Radio Helsinki Päiväkämmit broadcast
Radio Helsinki broadcasts at the superKOLMEMEN! Radio host Renaz Ebrahim talks about topical events in Helsinki and plays the top music at the moment.
5 pm- 7pm Opening of superKOLMEMEN
We invite all citizens to get to know superKOLMEMEN! Pop in or stay longer just by yourself or with friends.
7 pm-8.30 pm Radio Helsinki’s Friendship club (preregistration required)
Radio Helsinki will hold a Friendship club evening together with Olohuoneklubi. Antti Pouta’s live gig and Radio Helsinki DJs will be in the bubble. Join the friend’s club here. Please note that seats are limited.

superKOLMEMEN transforms for the evening into a huge video work when video artist Simone Serlenga’s works are reflected onto the surface of the installation.
Tuesday 6.9.
9 am-10 am Better fashion
How can Finnish fashion better respond to the trends and changes in modern fashion industry and retail? The discussion features experts in the field, moderated by Harri Kangas, the Relationship Manager at Helsinki Design School.
12 pm-1 pm Lunch Hour Talk: The Muoto 2016 awarded
The annual Muoto award gala recognizes design’s most creative, most gifted and most uncompromising doers and shines the spotlight on the most interesting products. The winners for 2016 will be published and honored at the Old University House on 31.8, and some of them can be heard on Wednesday at superKOLMEMEN.

6.45pm-8.30 pm Documentary film: Yayoi Kusama – I adore myself
The documentary (102 min.) follows one of the world’s most famous visual artists, Yayoi Kusama, for 18 months. The 75-year-old artist works on a new series of art and travels around the work to see her exhibitions.
Yayoi Kusama is a fascinating, multifaceted artist, who has been called a conceptual artist, minimalist, surrealist, pop artist and feminist artist. Her record-breaking major exhibition Yayoi Kusama: In Infinity will open on 7.10. at Helsinki Art Museum HAM.
Wednesday 7.9.
9 am-10 am Factors of success in city planning – How will Central Pasila become a new urban centre?
From an empty lot near a hub of traffic will rise a new urban centre, Central Pasila. What impact will city design have on its construction, and how will the entire area become functional and timeless while remaining interesting and attractive?

Tuija Seipell is a popular Cool Hunter blog writer and business advisor, who has lived in North America for over 30 years.

OK:KO (We Jazz Rising Star 2016)
We Jazz publishes the programme for their next festival on 4.-11.12. in conjunction with Helsinki Design Week. At the same time, the latest edition will be published of the We Jazz magazine. This event celebrates the OK:KO band, which this year received the honour of being named the We Jazz Rising Star.
Thursday 8.9.
9 am-10 am Graphic design in a bubble
What’s going on in the field of graphic design today and in the future? Grafia, Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland, arranges a morning talk with graphic designer Kiia Beilinson, graphic design lecturer Arja Karhumaa and Art Director Leo Karhunen. Talk will be moderated by Kaarle Hurtig.
12 pm-1 pm Lunch Hour Talk: Marti Guixé
Marti Guixé is a Spanish designer who works in both Barcelona as well as Berlin. He is an award-winning designer known as a prolific writer and food design innovator. In 2001, in protest of the strict limits of traditional design, he started an ex-designer movement.

5 pm Presentation “Mapping the city – A creative approach to Helsinki”
The social design workshop presents the results of course work by Aalto ARTS students. For one week students focused on different neighbourhoods in Helsinki with the question of how a design perspective and design method can contribute to solving problems, stimulating people’slives and effecting positive change. Participants share and discuss their individual research, experience, thoughts and solutions with the public.

How is Helsinki developed and on whose terms? A bedroom community or a living community? Local neighbourhood shops or hypermarkets? Which kind of city is best for residents, and which kind of city culture is needed? How can the development of the city be influenced? Discussing the topic are Deputy Mayor for real estate and city planning Anni Sinnemäki and researcher Lieven Ameel. The moderator is NiklasThesslund.
