PRIMER Conference Europe

The futures are made. But how, where and by whom? PRIMER is the premier conference dedicated to exploring this question and bringing together the leading minds in futures design thinking and doing. We are now bringing the conference to Europe for the first time ever, in collaboration with Helsinki Design Week.

In front of 250–300 professionals from all over the world, the speakers of the main conference day will be thought leaders of the industry, including names such as Monika Bielskyte (All Future Everything), Scott Smith (Changeist), Ani Liu (MIT, Boston) and Simone Rebaudengo (Yeast, automato.farm). Buy your ticket here.

Work Up! x HDW: AI and Ethics 

The Work Up! seminar related to the Employment 2020 initiative of the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment is organized for the first time in cooperation with Helsinki Design Week. The topic is “Artificial Intelligence and Ethics”, and the keynote speakers are Minna Mustakallio of Futurice and philosopher Maija-Riitta Ollila. The theme is addressed in terms of both work life and design. We’ll hear specialists’ panel discussions.

Future Fabric 

What does the future of fashion design and the textile industry look like? Future Fabric, a seminar focusing on sustainable new materials in fashion and textile design through the lens of science, answers this question from three different viewpoints: Future Textile Technologies, from Technology to Industry, and Sustainability as a Brand.

The Other Encounter 

The Other Encounter is a science performance. The audience has three potential roles. They can try out what it’s like to be a robot and meet a human, or they can have a discussion with a robot as well as meet it. Or they can follow a discussion between a robot and a human. The event takes place in restaurant settings, where people usually encounter each other. The robot is an InMoov, designed by Gaël Langevin and built by Futurice, Digitalents, Aalto University and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
