What building exemplifies exemplary residential architecture?
What kind of house is pleasant to live in?
Which residential building would you have wanted to design yourself?

Housing affects each and every one of us. Therefore, it’s not trivial what kinds of residential buildings we construct or where we spend the majority of our time. For many, their home is the biggest investment of their life.

In an informal evening event, architects will take the stage, and each will be given ten minutes to present in words and images a selected masterpiece that, for one reason or another, hasn’t received enough attention. The event offers intriguing insights into the work of architects and the times we live in – and also provides the architects with an opportunity to praise a colleague.

The participating architects are Timo Karasalo, Esa Laaksonen, Anu Puustinen, Miia-Liina Tommila, and Henrik Ilvesmäki.

The presentations will be in English.

House by an Architect, developed by Luovi, is an ongoing concept aimed at raising appreciation for architecture. The installation of mini-houses that charmed visitors at the 2022 Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale kicked off this content series, which has taken the form of discussion events at Helsinki Design Week in 2022 and 2023.

Bar Unikko in Residence at Helsinki Design Week will be open throughout the event, with colourful wines served by Let Me Wine.

The main venue for Helsinki Design Week changes every year, with the programme being designed and implemented to suit the space. This year’s House by an Architect event venue is smaller than in previous years, and space is limited. Admission to Paasivuorenkatu 3 is free, but reservations are not possible. Please arrive early!
