Seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis
What building exemplifies exemplary residential architecture?
What kind of house is pleasant to live in?
Which residential building would you have wanted to design yourself?
Housing affects each and every one of us. Therefore, it’s not trivial what kinds of residential buildings we construct or where we spend the majority of our time. For many, their home is the biggest investment of their life.
In an informal evening event, architects will take the stage, and each will be given ten minutes to present in words and images a selected masterpiece that, for one reason or another, hasn’t received enough attention. The event offers intriguing insights into the work of architects and the times we live in – and also provides the architects with an opportunity to praise a colleague.
The participating architects are Pekka Pakkanen, Miina Kontuniemi, Jouni Kaipia, Maiju Suomi and Aaro Artto.
Jouni Kaipia
Jouni Kaipia (born 1956) is a Helsinki based architect and photographic artist. He is occupied with a wide range of visual expression. Kaipia travels the world, observing and documenting the vanishing diversity and beauty of human habitats – and ponders how we should dwell on this globe. He has had his own design practice since 1987. On the side, he has been teaching in a number of architecture schools in several countries.
Aaro Artto
Aaro Artto (b. 1964) is the founder and partner of the architectural office Arkkitehtityöhuone APRT Oy. He has over 30 years of experience as a designer in various projects. Aaro Artto has been a member of the jury for several architectural competitions. He has written articles for Arkkitehti magazine and contributed to the SAFA blog. His design for the multipurpose building ‘Railo’ at Rovaniemi Central Field was awarded the Architecture Finlandia Prize in 2016.
Miina Kontuniemi
Lauttasaari based architect, whose design approach is guided by clarity, sustainability, and a strong sense of everyday life. Inspiration comes from the calm of the archipelago, Italian culture, gastronomy, and the beauty of the everyday. Nature, time at the cottage, and winter swimming provide balance – while the kitchen offers a space for creativity and relaxation. Travel is not only a passion, but also a way to understand the built environment from different perspectives.
Pekka Pakkanen
Pekka Pakkanen is an architect awarded in architectural, art, science and innovation competitions and a TV personality. His office Planetary Architecture is working on sustainable ways to construct high quality architecture within our Planetary boundaries.
