Sleep-philia is a horizontal study, where the beauty and difficulty of being exhales through a drawn line. A horizontal plane is a space of celebration for wisdom of sensitivities and the nervous system.

Rooted in neuroaesthetic methodologies and explorations of invasiveness, the work has been developed in collaboration with schools and applied learning methods. Its development is guided by artistic research in neuro- and ecopsychology, touching on themes of dysregulation and sensory perception.

The installation unfolds across ten planks, ten pencils, salt, sugar, and the logics of release and horizontal situations. Tracing the contours of being and time—whether experienced collectively or in solitude, in ways that remain dysfunctional and non-aesthetic. The work gestures that celebration can be difficult like a drawn outline and being. Rest emerges as a fundamental gift of existence—a subtle yet profound form of celebration.

The content is part of the School as Designer -Economics of Temporalities, Unmediating future feasibilities and design expertises In-situ -project and artistic research by Paula Karvonen carried out as part of Design Academy school program project (https://ado.fi/in-english/ https://www.ornamo.fi/en/)

The project is funded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) Architecture and Design and contributes to the final production content.

On 4th and 5th September, special content, guided visits, and workshops are available for teachers, dramaturgs, and school groups before 6:00 PM.
