Internationally well-known eating designer Marije Vogelzang creates a new dining installation in Helsinki.
Vogelzang is a Dutch eating designer, whose installations combining art and food have been shown worldwide from Budapest to Tokyo. Now she will creat an installation _A Couple of Little Things_ that the audience can experience at the Helsinki Design Week in September.
The work is based on the Second World War and it’s war children and focuses on themes such as refugee crisis and emotions of distress and uncertainty.
Vogelzang has been working for 15 years in dining experiences close to the performance art. For example, in Eat Love Budapest installation three Roma women were feeding people for three days and telling their stories and memories related to the dishes.
Art piece respects war children
The installation is made in cooperation with a dining start-up Food Camp Finland, which aims to create a new kind of dining experiences.
“The dining experience design will revolutionize future relationship with food and events. We bring Vogelzang to Helsinki Design Week to open up the possibilities of the effectiveness of the dining experience”, says Food Camp Finland’s CEO Riikka Kannas.
The founders are restaurateurs Pekka Terävä and Petri Lukkarinen and event industry veterans Riikka Kannas and Ani Ruuskanen. They want to bring people together in various dining events.
The venue is privately owned Lampa house in the City Hall Quarter, in the neigborhood of the Swedish embassy. It will be open to the public for the first time during the Helsinki Design Week, September 2016.
On the wall, a ceramist Pekka Paikkari has created a monumental art piece Historian kerrostumia (Layers of History) that shows gratitude to Swedish people, who received over 70 000 Finnish war children during the wars.
