First Showroom programme highlights are now announced

The stage programme of Showroom, an event for design, spatial design and lighting professionals, consists of architect dialogues, lunch talks and international keynotes.

This year’s Showroom Stage programme examines architecture, urban planning and design as an interaction of people, buildings and environment.

Showroom is an event professionals’ event for design, spatial design, and lighting, organized in collaboration between Helsinki Design Week and Habitare in the Helsinki fair centre from 13 to 15 September 2017.

The theme of this year is ‘Q&A’ which means the speeches aim to reflect the user-oriented needs and expectations hidden behind the phenomena and to answer the questions stemming from the issues.

International keynote speakers

The first international speaker is Kristen Ring, who is an architect, curator and publicist. She is a founder of AA PROJECTS – a consultancy developing concepts for future oriented projects in the area of architecture and urban development and strategically implementing suitable formats in order to promote interdisciplinary communication and networking. Please notice: this keynote has been cancelled.

Ring is the author of the publications URBAN LIVING, Strategies for the future (2015) and SELF-MADE CITY. Berlin, Self-initiated Urban Living and Architectural Interventions (2013).

The other international speaker is Keller Easterling – an american architect, author urbanist and Professor at the university of Yale. Easterling is a contemporary writer working on the issues of urbanism, architecture, and organization. Her most recent book, Extrastatecraft: The Power of Infrastructure Space, examines global infrastructure networks as a medium of polity and infrastructure as the determinant of a set of hidden rules that structure the spaces all around us.

The stage programme consists of ‘Architects on Architects’ dialogues between two architects and lunch talks arranged around a round table. The guests include architects Helena Sandman and Marco Casagrande and interior architects Vertti Kivi and Petra Majantie.
