Milan 2017 presents warehouses open for the first time in thirty years and a little bit of Finnish nudity.

We all know it: this week in Milan will be hectic and amazing.

Grown around the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, this design event transforms Milan into a design carnival where both established companies as well as promising start-ups can present their novelties every April. There is plenty of hustle and bustle to admire.

No matter if you are heading to Salone Del MobileSaloneSatelliteFuorisaloneLa Triennale di Milano or any other of the locations and events, Milan 2017 from 4 to 9 April will be memorable.

Warehouses of Milan’s Central Station

Exhibitors are spread in various areas in addition to the actual event venue.

Maybe the most interesting addition to this year’s venue selection is Ventura Centrale. The warehouses of Milan’s Central Station are open for the first time in thirty years. Once they were used as laboratories, studios and depots. It is Ventura Lambrate’s big sister and the latest addition to the 8th edition of Ventura Lambrate Milan.

A long strip of disused warehouses spreads out along both sides of the rails. Facing the Central Station, follow the pathway on the right-hand side and you will soon reach the Ventura Centrale vaults, which have undergone a massive transformation from depots into full-blown exhibition spaces. We now present you the itinerary for Ventura Centrale, giving you an overview of what to expect from this first edition. It is part of Ventura Projects, produced by Organisation in Design.

Ventura Centrale has the magic of a busy environment combined with the ambience of a place of abandoned beauty. Ventura Centrale offers space to brands with an international reputation that are looking for a unique way to let a large section of the Milan design community experience their work.

Finnish design in Milan

Finnish design will be presented in multiple exhibitions and events in Milan.

If you are looking for promising young Finnish designers, take a look at the NAKUNA exhibition by the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. It includes projects, installations and talks in Brera, an area that attracts notable commercial operators.

NAKUNA (“naked” in Finnish) takes the audience onto a sensory journey, an itinerary of self-discovery and lays bare the Finnish soul. It is about ice, forest, lakes, biomaterials, the sauna culture, clarity and honesty.

Exhibition Linking The South and The North presents the joint work of the Finnish designer Ilkka Suppanen and the Italian designer Raffaella Mangiarotti. They have designed a sofa for us to experience, while working, the same comfort as when we chat under the duvet.

Salone de Milan includes Finnish brands such as Secto Design (Stand E04, Hall 13) and Nikari (Stand E34, Hall 16), and SaloneSatellite Studio Finna – just to mention a few. In addition, a new design week network World Design Weeks will be presented in Triennale.

Helsinki Design Week’s team will travel to Milan too, so…

See you in Milan!
