Clarion Hotel is Helsinki Design Week’s main venue
What better place to use as the main venue of Helsinki Design Week than a design hotel in Jätkäsaari? Explore the programme to take place at Clarion Hotel Helsinki.
Opened in 2016 in the Jätkäsaari district of Helsinki, the design hotel’s interiors mainly consist of Scandinavian and Finnish design. It is thus a good match to function as the main venue for Helsinki Design Week. See all the events in Clarion Hotel.
Events at the Clarion during Helsinki Design Week:
A world-premiering talk concept, DesignCommons breaks the pattern of a traditional conference. Instead of lecturing on stage, international design stars sit with the audience and take turns to stand up and speak about the most pressing issues in the design world. The crowd consists of table parties of guests and speakers, discussing the given themes and looking for solutions while enjoying food and wine.
The first speakers are Dutch architect Winy Maas, Finnish technology entrepreneur Marko Ahtisaari, Dutch landscape architect Cees van der Veeken and Studio Swine that consists of Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and British artist Alexander Groves.
DesignCommons is part of the World Design Weeks Summit 2017 organized in Helsinki on 14 and 15 September.
Creative Collaborations

Helsinki Design Week’s Muoto Gala awards Finnish designers and companies investing in design. The Gala is held 13 September 2017. Winners are selected in six different categories. Explore the Product of the Year candidates and vote for your favourite here before 20 August.
Exhibitions and service design workshop results
During Helsinki Design Week, you can explore Kalevala Jewelry’s exhibition. The lobby also features a glass exhibition by Mikko Paakkanen and a lighting installation by Secto Design.
The seals we saw at the Senate Square on Helsinki Day, HejHylkeet!, have brought laughter and joy to people around Helsinki all summer. During Helsinki Design Week, the herd of seals meets again settled around Clarion Hotel Helsinki.
In May, Clarion Hotel Helsinki and Helsinki Design Week organized a service design workshop for the residents of the Jätkäsaari district to find out how a hotel can improve the quality of life and develop services for the citizens by means of design.
Clarion Hotel Helsinki and Helsinki Design Week have picked out the best ideas from the workshop, present them during Helsinki Design Week and pilot them in the autumn. We’ll be able to enjoy free yoga lessons, movies and architectural tours.
