Helsinki Design Week and Silja Line present a Design Cruise to Stockholm in February. Join us to hear fascinating keynotes and learn about the design sights and interior design trends in Stockholm.
During the cruise, we’ll hear from designers Annaleena Hämäläinen, Klaus Aalto and Reeta Ek about creative work and inspiration. The cruise programme also includes a visit to the Stockholm Furniture Fair. The fair presents the latest interior design and lighting trends in the Nordics, and Stockholm Design Week organized at the same time spreads the design fest across the city. Design Cruise producer Reetta Turtiainen listed her highlights for the fair.
In 2018, the Guest of Honour designer is Italian architect, product designer, interior designer and art director Paola Navone. Navone is to design an installation for the entrance of the venue. During her long and colourful career, Navone has worked for several Italian and international brands and won several awards.
The restaurant at the fair is designed by a different designer each year. This year, it has been created by Luca Nichetto, who is originally from Italy but currently lives and works in Stockholm. For the first time the restaurant will also function as an arena for design discussions; this year the theme is Visionary Thinking. The restaurant is a visual experience with influences from old films, Roman amphitheatres, French gardens and the world of science fiction. Its menu is a creation of 29-year-old chef Lina Ahlin, who won the esteemed White Guide Rising Star award in 2015.
Designers of the future present their work in the Greenhouse section. This year the jury selected 39 designers or design teams and 27 design schools from 17 different countries.
This year’s trend exhibition is conceived by Christian Halleröd Design that has previously created stores for Swedish brands like Acne Studios and Byredo. The exhibition explores the themes of authentic, fake and hand-made. It is co-organized with Materialbiblioteket, the largest material collection in Sweden founded in 2005 and used by architects and designers.
In addition to the furniture fair, the city of Stockholm will feature an array of design events during Stockholm Design Week. More than 100 events include open showrooms and studios, exhibitions and workshops.
