Helsinki Design Week 2018: For the Ecologically Mindful

Is it your goal to lead an ecological life, or do you maybe want to learn how to treat the environment in a more resourceful manner? As the festival draws nearer, we gathered our tips for the ecologically mindful.

Keru Community Fridge

KERU is a non-profit open community fridge with the aim of reducing food waste and supporting sustainable food culture. At the opening event, visitors are able to participate in a waste food cooking workshop and other activities. Many successful food sharing movements across Europe have inspired the pilot project.

RAW / RAAKA

The RAW / RAAKA exhibition presents items designed with the moral precepts of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic. The objects are made of thinned wood, which originates from a naturally managed forest in Hanko, Finland.

Hungarian Designers in Search of Sustainability

The exhibition “Hungarian Designers in Search of Sustainability” presents over 25 fashion and product designers trying to reduce the impact of processes, invent sustainable innovations, change consumer behaviours and create a more sustainable way of living in the 21st century. With the opportunity to demonstrate the new Hungarian design tendencies in Helsinki, this exhibition fosters the international visibility of the Hungarian designers and brings closer ethical, sustainable Hungarian brands you can really trust. Design Forum Talk <3 Circular Economy

The day focuses on the circular economy, its business models and circular design. At the event, there will be expert talks about sustainable growth and circular business models as well as case examples from companies that are already using design as a strategic tool for circular businesses. EcoDesign Sprint has been developed as part of the EcoDesign Circle project by Design Forum Finland.

50 Years Later Solves Wicked Problems

Technological development, digitalization, climate change, and the ageing of the population are examples of megatrends that create global, wicked problems. The workshop brings together experts of the Arctic area: the design students that are over 70 years old and have studied the change since the 1960s and those studying design now to solve the socially, economically, culturally and environmentally important wicked problems.
