Weekly Tips: December
An atmospheric December is here after a November that felt like a year-long month. If you have any spare time while sipping on glögg, a lot of design events are happening in the city.

Finally we are able to see inside the new library designed by ALA Architects. Weekly can’t wait to explore the design and fashion books area. Also the crafts area of second floor will sure be of interest for friends of design: apparently there will be a 3D printer, a laser cutter, sticker printer, heat press, sewing machines, overlock sewing machines, embroidery machines and badge machines that can be borrowed.
Kaj Franck Design Prize Exhibition: Tapio Anttila

The Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2018, awarded by Design Forum Finland, has been given to interior architect, designer Tapio Anttila. The jury stated that the characteristic features of Anttila’s career are a deep cooperation with product development, functional structural solutions and a confident, individual design idiom. Products designed by Anttila feature insightful functionalities and excellent ergonomics.
Xmas Store by Field Day & Friends
5 December – 22 December
Kinaporinkatu 1, Helsinki
Field Day Studio & Store in Kallio district will be filled with objects perfect for presents. As well as Field Day’s high quality leather products, it’s also possible to buy goods from Month of Sundays, Saana ja Olli and PUF + TOMI. The store wll also have a xmassy installation by the artist Maija Fredrika.
2 December – 9 December
WeJazz is a jazz festival and a dear friend of Helsinki Design Week. What the festivals share is the love for beauty in music, design and people but also in the unusual event venues. This December, it’s possible to enjoy jazz not only in Ääniwalli, Kaiku and Korjaamo but also at Helsinki’s first sound art gallery Akusmata. The space hosts a carefully designed acoustics. It was founded by sound artist and composer Petri Kuljuntausta. Find the rest of the venues here and see where you end up!

Harjutori 8, 00500 Kallio
Organised by Khaos Publishing, the newest neighbourhood bistro Harju8 will function as a venue for xmas market event. Expect graphic prints, ceramics, books, flowers and all that’s nice. The list of vendors seems promising… You can find it here.
