On March 3 2022, The Huiput Creative Festival will bring a host of international creative design experts to Jätkäsaari in Helsinki. The event provides inspiring ideas and new viewpoints for creative design. In addition to speeches, the event also includes plenty of creative activities in the form of workshops. The theme for 2022 is RECREATE.
The main star of the festival is one of the most influential graphic designers in the world, Paula Scher from the US. She has been a partner in the New York office of Pentagram since 1991. Scher, a recipient of numerous awards for her work, has designed visual identities, packaging and publications to an extensive clientele including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Opera, Tiffany, Citibank and Microsoft. Paula Scher’s works can be found in the collections of many major museums. The Netflix documentary series Abstract: The Art of Design has an episode on Scher and her work. Brand identities are built to stand the test of time. However, it is impossible for a designer to know the changes future will bring. In her keynote speech, Living, Breathing Identities, Paula Scher will debunk myths related to identity design.
Apartamento Magazine was born out of curiosity towards and the desire to meet other like- minded people. The first issue came out in 2008. Apartamento Magazine was called the interior magazine of everyday life, because it presented people in real environments without artificial sets and props. Over the years, the publication expanded to include consultation services for different lifestyle, design and fashion brands, and in 2018, Apartamento Studios was established. In accordance with the vision of the magazine, Apartamento Studios aims to create a way of working and an atmosphere in which hierarchies are less important than the creative result. Apartamento Studios’ founder, Omar Sosa, and design director, Mariana Martin, tell in their presentation about the origins of Apartamento and how the Studio reforms the field of creative design through its activities.
Whether the question is about working in the field of activism or pop culture, the German graphic designer Anja Kaiser is always looking for new ways to improve society using graphic design, art, music and digital technology as her tools. Kaiser’s posters, animated illustrations and publications, representing radical aesthetics, aim to expand the audience’s awareness of topical and important themes. Kaiser works as a temporary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and lectures and organises workshops around the world. In her speech, Anja Kaiser presents a toolbox which allows the listener to find better ways of working when surrounded by the volatile, even chaotic trends of graphic design. The toolbox contains stories of the canon of graphic design and different strategies to help the listeners find a balance between their own creative projects and client work.
PechaKucha speakers will be announced soon.
