”Excitement is in the air. This is the first time when we are organising a design cruise to Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Stockholm Design Week. Working at a ferry seems to be a whole own world and brings fun variation for an usual working environment.”
“Of course I have to take a picture with the stars of the night when they arrive. From left: designer Iina Vuorivirta, interior architect Hanni Koroma, me, and journalist Sami Sykkö who will be hosting the evening.”
“We go through the choreography before the ferry leaves and the audience arrive.”
”During the evening Iina Vuorivirta tells about her work at IKEA and Hanni Koroma about home interiors. It is great to listen to people when they really enjoy their work. It inspires people around them.”
“We finish the day with a relaxed dinner. After four courses we toast for an succesful evening before everyone goes to their cabins.”
”Next morning we head to Alvsjö where Stockholmsmässan (fair centre) is situated. The Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair runs for five days. Guest of Honor Lounge welcomes the fair visitors. Each year the area is designed by a famous designer. This year a British design studio Barber & Osgerby, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, have had the honor.”
”There are three big halls and a Greehouse area where young talents and design schools are represented. This time we do not even have time to go through all the halls. All together there are almost 700 exhibitors and each stand is very well finalised. Here are exhibitors from the Greenhouse area: Canadian Thom Fougere Studio and Swedish textile brand Butler/Lindgård.”
”After the fair we have some time at Södermalm. Besides the fair there are different events and exhibitions that are marked with Stockholm Design Week’s flags.”
”I say goodbye to the passengers who start their journey back to the harbour and Helsinki. I will spend the weekend in Stockholm with my colleagues. I still have couple of days to enjoy one of my favorite cities.”
In the My Weekly Pics series, we bring to our readers the week in pictures of invited designers and design professionals: observations, fancies and encounters from a personal point of view.
