In its 375th anniversary year, Fiskars is proud to introduce Fiskars LAB, a fast-track innovation platform the ‘Best of the Best ‘ Fiskars Design team uses to experiment with interesting new things, materials, and approaches.

During Helsinki Design Week, Fiskars LAB will host a design talk titled “What if?”. The talk will explore ways to rethink, redesign, and reimagine exceptional things. Guests will have an opportunity to get their hands on the exclusive LAB products, with the Fiskars design team as their hosts, and see behind the scenes of the Fiskars Group Campus, home to many design-driven brands.

Panelists
Saara Suojoki is the Development Director at EMMA - Espoo Museum of Modern Art. She has worked for more than 20 years in management positions in marketing communications and sponsorship, e.g. at Ateneum Art Museum, HAM Helsinki Art Museum and the Culture and Leisure Department of the City of Helsinki.
Sofia Ilmonen is a fashion designer whose work focuses on transformable modular garments.The core concept lies in modular design that aims to address the issue of short-lived clothing through a unique modular, adaptable structure.This allows modular garments to be reassembled in different ways time and time again: they are like Lego-blocks in the form of clothing! Sofia Ilmonen has received recognition for her work both nationally and internationally. She was awarded at the Hyères Fashion Festival for her innovative design and received the Marimekko Prize as well as the Finnish Textile and Fashion Prize for her graduate collection. Her creations have also been showcased in various exhibitions, magazines, and events, where her modular approach has garnered widespread attention and acclaim.
Petteri Masalin ​is the Chief Design Officer at Fiskars Brand. Cooking, creating, gardening are at the core of Fiskars’ offering, and the award-winning, ever-creative design team behind the Fiskars brand are endlessly inspired by Nordic minimalism, pure nature, and the opportunity to do things just a bit better.​ For almost 15 years, Petteri Masalin has been the Chief Design Officer for the Fiskars brand. Throughout his career, Masalin has pushed Finnish design thinking forward, and he has received numerous design awards.​ ​Masalin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and has graduated from Lahti University of Applied Sciences’s Institute of Design. He is a board member of Lahti University of Applied Sciences and the Finnish Design Centre.​ ​ Masalin is the first person with a design background to have led Fiskars R&D. Today, design is an integral part of the company’s R&D process, to the extent that the two have blended together almost completely. Masalin has developed a hybrid approach in which engineers become designers and designers become engineers. Together with his team, Masalin aims to develop innovative products of high quality that deliver even after decades of use.
