Petra Ilonen opens the doors of her 23 m2 studio in Kallio to the public on the Saturdays of Helsinki Design Week from 12:00 to 18:00. From the 5th floor window opens a view to the old Leipätehdas (“bread factory”) brick buildings. Come and say hello!
You are welcome to discuss the “new normal” in Finnish design by yourself or with your friends.
Petra Ilonen’s (b.1965, Helsinki) non-fiction New Normal Design Finland is a personal viewpoint on the impact of design in Finnish society. The focus lies in the design, which aims to make a positive impact on our environment. Ilonen has interviewed 14 designers, whose episodes are intertwined with her own narrative, in which she examines her environment critically.
Illustrated with photographs, New Normal Design Finland is in English, and was launched on the UN International Day of Happiness 20 March 2024. You can purchase the book at the Designmuseum (Korkeavuorenkatu 23, Helsinki) and their online shop.
