New Finnish design store opens in Helsinki
A new design store TRE will open in Helsinki on Friday. Alongside Finnish design and fashion, it offers events and vegan food – and aims at international markets.
A new design store TRE will open in Helsinki on Friday. Alongside Finnish design and fashion, it offers events and vegan food.
A new design store focusing on Finnish design and fashion opens its doors in downtown Helsinki. TRE is a concept store that operates along sustainable principles.
Its selection will include home accessories, fashion and furniture, and will also open an online shop, organize events and cooperate with various Finnish companies and groups.
“We believe that people making good and conscious choices will be happier,” says Tanja Sipilä, Managing Director of TRE.
“That’s why we underline transparency and sustainable development.”
TRE will focus on Finnish design and fashion and selected international brands. TRE will also produce its own capsule collections and take part in interesting collaborations that will support its guidelines of ethical and ecological operations.
International goals
The name TRE means number 3 in Swedish. The founders of are an experienced trio, Tanja Sipilä, Lasse Laine and Teemu Suviala.
Sipilä was previously running Design Forum Shop and has extensive experience in selling Finnish design. Lasse Laine is an industrial designer with strong knowhow from his furniture manufacturing companies ProtosDemos and Made by Choice. Teemu Suviala is a professional in branding and works at the moment as Executive Creative Director at Collins in New York, USA.
The growth targets are high and TRE also aims at international markets.
“We want to reach a large clientele and obviously think of our business operations globally from the start. Our founding team has extensive international networks and to make the business profitable we simply must look outside Finland,” Sipilä says.
One day before the opening her feelings are excited and nervous.
“The store has already been an amazing adventure and everytime we open new boxes, it feels like Christmas.”
Vegan food and events
As a part of the store, Cargo Coffee + Vegetarian Food opens a restaurant focusing on ecological, healthy and high-quality food, mostly vegan. Cargo Coffee in Kamppi, Helsinki, has already gained great popularity and regular clientele, and now the owners will open the second restaurant in the city.
The place will be a café-cum-winebar and serves lunch.
The lifestyle shop TRE will be opened in downtown Helsinki at Mikonkatu 6 in August 2016. The online shop will be launched in late September – early October.
