Dutch Design Week celebrated its 15th edition from 22 to 30 October in Eindhoven. Each year the festival gathers nearly 300 000 visitos, 2 500 designers and over 100 venues together. This year the theme was “The making of”. With the theme the festival wanted to pay attention both processes and makers behind the products and services.
Helsinki Design Week visited the festival and picked four interesting and colorful exhibitions by young designers.
Popcore – A living design exhibition
The collective of designers aims to raise and present a large selection of today’s young designers. The exhibition with dinners, talks and gigs is a natural combination as the designers work within different fields of design, from fashion to product design and from graphic design to concept design, too. The exhibition presented 14 designers who investigated a contemporary way of life.
The first part of the Products in Process exhibition was showcased at the design festival in Milan in April. Envisions is a Dutch collective that showcases everything but the end product. Different materials, colors, textures and experiments create an interesting and visual combination.
Design Academy Eindhoven – Graduation Show 2016
Every year one of the “must see” exhibitions is the graduation show by Design Academy Eindhoven. This year the exhibition presented almost 200 works by 171 designers. The queue went all the way to the street before the doors opened. The exhibition was curated by a Dutch design duo Formafantasma.
Twice a year the Dutch Invertuals create an exhibition, one for the design festival in Milan and the other for the Dutch Design Week. All works are especially created for each exhibition. Power Play exhibition presented 13 designers who had been challenged to contemplate future scenarios of new energy sources and energy landscapes.
The next Dutch Design Week will be held on 21.-29.10.2017
