The new event for lighting professionals brings international keynote speakers from the fields of urban lighting and planning and lighting design to Finland. The two-day event combines international keynote speeches with a relaxed evening featuring food and drinks in an inspiring setting.

The event for lighting professionals VALO/ON 2017 gathers the pioneers in lighting in February.

One of the speakers is light designer Daniel Rybakken, whose work occupies the area between art and design, creating limited editions, art installations and prototypes for serial production. Rybakken has won several awards, of which the latest is his second Compasso d’Oro by ADI in 2016. In VALO/ON, he will mainly focus on daylight and how to artificially recreate its subconscious effect.

The other speaker is Don Slater from England who reflects on light from the point of view of urbanization and urban lighting and planning. Don Slater is a professor of sociology at the London School of Economics and co-director of the Configuring Light/Staging the Social research group.

His current research programme, Configuring Light, promotes collaborations between social research and lighting design, particularly in public realm lighting, developing new methodologies, research projects and training programmes to improve the social knowledge base for urban lighting and planning. In his keynote, Don Slater will talk about Social lighting: How to connect lights and people in urban life.

The event presents 29 leading public space lighting companies and their latest most interesting innovations and services. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about lighting solutions from the point of view of architecture, lighting technology and electrical engineering.

In addition to international keynote speakers, we will see on stage the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of Finland, which will arrange a programme for the Day of Light. The programme will include the popular PechaKucha Night and a show from the Belenos Group of Arts. DJ Otto Talvio will provide the music.
