Ragamuf is a stretchy chair rug which fits to different shapes and sizes of chairs. Ragamuf employs Syrian refugee women residing in Turkey near the Syrian border.
Ragamuf was launched on the Indiegogo crowdfunding site on January 17, 2017. Ragamuf has reached it’s crowdfunding goal but the campaign continues. Pre-sales aim is to achieve international awareness and enable opening the Ragamuf online store.
Ragamuf was launched by founder Martta Leskelä, M.Sc., and chair rag is designed by designer Tuula Pöyhönen.
The Art Insider’s video of Ragamuf has already over 1,5 million views.
You can pre-order a Ragamuf on the Indiegogo campaign site. Follow the Ragamuf story by signing up for the newsletter on the Ragamuf website.
Among other events, Ragamuf will be presented at the Enter and Encounter joint exhibition organized by the Design Museum and the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo from 24 March to 24 September 2017.
Ragamuf pre-sales are going on. Campaign discounts are valid until 16 February 2017. Pre-orders will be delivered by July 2017. The Ragamuf online store will open after the pre-ordered products have been delivered.
Ragamuf is fun, ecological and humane. Each rug is a unique work of design by its maker, which is why it is meaningful to the maker, too. The products are made of knitter rag, surplus from the textile industry. Ragamuf gives your old, worn-out chair a complete facelift.
Rug-making allows refugee women to become financially independent and mentally empowered – work provides contacts outside the home and creates a sense of importance. Employing women also impacts the wellbeing of their children, family and the whole community.
“Ragamuf” originates from the word ragamuffin. You can follow Ragamuf on Instagram at ragamuf.fin. Ragamuffin is also a breed of longhaired cats, and moreover, the name refers to rags.
